ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities said they are investigating a death in St. Paul early Tuesday morning after a dispute in the Dayton’s Bluff area.

Police were called around 1 a.m. to the 700 block of East 3rd Street after a reported dispute in the area.

When they arrived, they found a man dead inside a residence. It wasn’t immediately clear how the man died, but police said the parties involved likely knew each other and a physical fight occurred while they were allegedly drinking.

“We did question suspects, and investigators are looking into what happened,” said St. Paul spokesman Paul Paulos.

On Tuesday afternoon, police identified the man as Joseph Michael Saros, 43, of St. Paul. His exact cause of death will be released at a later time.

One person was taken into custody, and a second person was being questioned. Police said that, as of Tuesday afternoon, they were involved in a death investigation, as opposed to a homicide investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Paul Police Homicide Unit at (651) 266-5650.
