ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Monday meant a weekend-long celebration for some, and the Department of Public Safety says nearly 500 were arrested during increased DWI patrols.

The DPS Office of Traffic Safety said that number may rise as additional information comes in.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, there had been 420 arrests. Between then and 6 a.m. Tuesday, another 75 had been arrested.

“There is no reason to get behind the wheel when you have had too much to drink. Always plan ahead for a sober ride,” Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow said.
