Prettner Solon Catches 2 Walleyes, Dayton Shut Out

NISSWA, Minn. (AP) — The 2014 fishing season has officially kicked off, with the state's lieutenant governor taking a quick 2-0 lead over Gov. Mark Dayton in walleye catches.

Dayton and Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon began the fishing season Saturday morning at one minute after midnight. They and others took to the waters at the Grand View Lodge on Gull Lake in Nisswa.

Prettner Solon caught the first fish of the opener when she hauled in a walleye about 1 a.m. She caught her second one minutes later.

Dayton hadn't immediately caught a fish as of 2:30 a.m., but said he was still determined to do so.

Dayton and Prettner Solon were scheduled to resume fishing later Saturday morning after an 8 a.m. ceremony.
