Minnesota's Gardenhire Ejected Against Tigers

DETROIT (AP) — Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was ejected from Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers for arguing a call near second base.

With the bases loaded and one out in the fourth inning, Detroit's Andrew Romine hit a grounder toward the shortstop that looked like a potential double play, but the ball hit Austin Jackson, the runner who had been on second. Umpires called Jackson out, made Victor Martinez stay on third and awarded Romine first, leaving the bases still loaded with two out.

Gardenhire, apparently wanting the umpires to award a double play, came out to argue, and he was eventually thrown out by third base umpire Joe West, the crew chief.

The play didn't cost Minnesota any runs. Rajai Davis followed with a groundout to end the inning.
