MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Thursday that center Gorgui Dieng was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
Dieng was originally acquired by the Timberwolves in a trade with the Utah Jazz on the night of the NBA Draft after the Timberwolves selected point guard Trey Burke. In his rookie season, Dieng averaged 4.8 points and five rebounds per game in 50 games this season, a stretch that includes 15 starts.
In his 15 starts, Dieng averaged 12 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. In his first career start, he had 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots. He also had a 22-point, 21-rebound game just days later.
Dieng joins Felton Spencer, Kevin Garnett, Craig Smith, Kevin Love, Jonny Flynn, Wes Johnson and Derrick Williams as previous Timberwolves players who have won All-Rookie honors.
