MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A St. Paul, Minn. man is among six climbers who went missing on Mount Rainier in Washington Saturday.

Mark Mahaney, 26, began climbing Mt. Rainier with a group on Monday. According to his uncle, Rob Mahaney, his last check in was Wednesday evening.

According to Rob, Mark was an experienced climber, this was his second time climbing Mt. Rainier, and his group was accompanied by two guides, one of which had climbed the mountain 50 times.

Mahaney’s father and brother flew out to Seattle Saturday when crews began search efforts.

Rob said he heard reports that crews spotted gear on one of the mountains and may have spotted the climbers.

Crews are unable to reach the climbers at the moment and are uncertain if any survived.

Mark grew up in Prior Lake, Minn. He graduated from Prior Lake High School and is currently living in St. Paul.

Rob said Mark’s two loves were climbing and his girlfriend.
