LinkedIn: Minneapolis-St. Paul A Top Destination For Recent Grads

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Twin Cities have made yet another list. Minneapolis-St. Paul was named one of the top destination cities for attracting recent graduates.

LinkedIn compiled a list of the top 10 destination cities that were most popular for recent college grads. The Twin Cities came in at No. 2, tied with Washington, D.C. The study showed 40 percent of the area's new residents in 2013 were recent college grads.

"Completely not surprising," University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management's undergraduate career center director Mindy Deardurff said. "We have retail, we have health care, consumer products, we sort of have something for everybody."

Minnesota hosts 19 Fortune 500 companies. General Mills, Target and Best Buy are all headquartered in the state. In addition to business opportunities, the ongoing metro makeover has caught the attention of young people.

"Downtown redevelopment, new condos going up, restaurants, lakes, it's a combination of all of those things," Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development commissioner Katie Clark Siben said.

Corey Twitty moved to Minneapolis from New Haven, Connecticut, in 2010 after he graduated for a job at Target headquarters.

"The city really sold me. There's so many things to do," Twitty said.

Twitty says many recent grads move to the Twin Cities for the job and stay for the quality of life.

"I think the word is definitely starting to get out ther," Twitty said.
