MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 64-year-old Nebraska man died Wednesday evening after he fell out of a fishing boat on Lake Vermilion in northeast Minnesota.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a water emergency call around 7:26 p.m. near Cable Bay.

According to the sheriff’s office, Gerald Kamtz was a passenger in the boat driven by 58-year-old Bruce Hageman and fell out as it was traveling through Cable Bay.

Officials were able to locate Kamtz and pull him out of the water.

He was transported to Essentia-Health Virginia medical center where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said he was not wearing a life jacket at the time he fell in.
