Man, Dog Rescued From Island At Minnehaha Creek

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a man had to be rescued after his dog went into Minnehaha Creek Sunday afternoon, got swept away by the current and the two became trapped on an island after the man saved the dog.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at about 1 p.m., just east of Minnehaha Falls. Authorities said the dog went into the water and got swept away by the strong current. His owner went into save the dog, and the two were able to make it to an island area nearby.

Firefighters on the scene tried to walk out to the island to rescue the pair with a rope, but the current was too strong. They used a boat and got the man and his dog off the island safely. There were no injuries in the incident.

Authorities said they were very lucky and it serves as a good reminder that people need to stay away from creeks and rivers currently swollen by flooding.
