Arboretum To Host Clean Water Summit
CHANHASSEN, Minn. (AP) -- It's called "green infrastructure" and it can give communities new tools for managing runoff in the urban landscape.
But the practice still isn't the norm, so the 2014 Clean Water Summit at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum will try to change that.
Thursday's one-day gathering will focus on the costs and benefits of green infrastructure, which manages storm water with natural systems to reduce pollution. Examples include permeable pavement, systems to collect rainwater for future use, rain gardens and green roofs.
Organizers with the Arboretum say water is a valuable and vulnerable resource that all too often goes needlessly down the drain. Participants will learn about tools and strategies for developing green infrastructure projects. The idea is to foster more partnerships, more implementation, greater acceptance and cleaner water.
