Man Convicted For Posing As Aide, Having Sex With Vulnerable Adult

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 43-year-old Minneapolis man was convicted Thursday in Hennepin County Court for criminal sexual conduct involving a vulnerable adult, and a jury will push for him to serve life in prison.

Corey Gordon had been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct in the case for posing as a personal care attendant in order to have sex with the victim. A jury found him guilty, then ruled that multiple instances of sex acts in the case were an aggravating circumstance to serving life in prison. That will be determined at a Sept. 25 sentencing hearing.

According to charges filed and testimony in the trial, Gordon took the woman, who is 10 years younger than him, to a coffee shop at the Mall of America in October of 2012. The two exchanged phone numbers, and when the woman's mother came from another store, the mother could see Gordon was reading about her disability on his iPad.

Over the next few months, the mother saw text messages on the woman's phone that suggested they were in a romantic relationship. The family of the woman told Gordon to leave her alone, according to court documents.

The woman took a bus to Courage Center three times a week for therapy. The woman's mother drove her there on May 24, 2013, and they were told when they arrived that her personal care attendant was waiting. When the woman's mother saw that the attendant was Gordon, she confronted him and he quickly left.

According to court documents, the woman never had a personal care attendant. Gordon posed as one, allowing him to take the victim to the assisted dressing rooms and engage in inappropriate sexual contact.
