Tossed-Out Cigarette Appears To Be Cause Of NE Mpls. House Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Thanks to an alert neighbor, everyone safely escaped a house fire in northeast Minneapolis Sunday.

Just before 3 p.m. Sunday, flames started shooting from the back of a home on the 2800 block of Taylor Street NE.

At some point, the neighbor spotted it and started banging on the door. That woke up one resident who'd been sleeping in the basement.

Fire crews battled the fire, which caused significant damage to the house, for approximately an hour before it was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

Investigators think a tossed-out cigarette may have lit some debris on fire before the flames spread to the house.

Everyone who lived there is staying with relatives now.
