Local Music Tap: 'War Poets' Teams Up w/ Rock The Cause To Release EP

A Minnesota nonprofit label – the same one that launched the late Zach Sobiech's "Clouds" song to worldwide attention -- is now teaming up with local group, War Poets, to launch their latest EP.

War Poets, consisting of medical ENT doctor-by-day Rex Haberman and singer Jenny Case, is a social justice music group that writes songs with a message. Their 2013 music video for "Close Enough," which was released at the height of the national gay marriage debate and Minnesota vote, received more than 250,000 views.

Apparently, Rock the Cause Records' noticed.

The entire six-song EP – entitled "Hot and Cole: American Relationships" -- will be released at Rock The Cause's 4th Annual "Phantasmagoria" mansion party in south Minneapolis on Nov. 1. Tickets are $30 . They're available here and at the door.

"We are very pleased that Rock The Cause has decided to work with the War Poets to promote our music and our messages," Haberman said. "This record, although more traditional in some ways, still imparts our shared views that music can be a positive force for social change."

Proceeds from the EP will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"One of the reasons we want part of the EP's proceeds to go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is because I've developed a collaborative writing relationship with Aileen Henderson from Galway, Ireland," he adds. "She is a singer songwriter who has cystic fibrosis. We've traded lyrics between us and she is writing music for new songs. We'll record the music here and she'll do her vocals there. It's an exciting development."

Rock The Cause is a Minnesota-based 501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to create a new generation of stewardship for nonprofit causes – combining music, community and social media.

"The spirit of our label is to work with music artists at all stages in their career. We help them to discover meaningful ways they can impact the greater good through music ," notes Scott Herold, CEO and Founder of Rock the Cause, of the organization's fresh ties to the band. "War Poets are excellent ambassadors of music with a purpose."
