Ramsey County Grand Jury Returns Indictments In St. Paul Homicide

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –After a nearly three-year long investigation, St. Paul police announced three men were charged in connection with a murder.

The Ramsey County grand jury returned several indictments last Wednesday against three men in connection with the death of 56-year-old Leonard Christian.

According to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office, the grand jury returned indictments on Juan Martinez, Desean Thomas and Ramone Smaller.

On March 30, 2012 police found Leonard Christian dead in a St. Paul home.

Martinez and Thomas were each indicted on four counts of murder in the first degree, six counts of murder in the second degree in connection with Christian's death.

Officials said Martinez and Thomas were also indicted on one count of attempted second degree murder, three counts of drive-by discharge of firearm and four counts of second degree assault in connection with a drive-by shooting on March 28, 2012.

Additionally, the grand jury indicted Ramone Smaller on two counts of aiding an offender.

Police say the men were apparently targeting the victim's son.

Two of them are already serving time in prison for other crimes.

According to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office, the grand jury handed down 38 counts related to the indictment.
