Local Music Tap: Courtney Yasmineh Album Release @ Icehouse
After returning from her ninth Euro Club tour, local alt-rock-indie-pop songwriter Courtney Yasmineh will be releasing her fourth album, Red Letter Day, at the Icehouse in Minneapolis this weekend.
Her new nine-song album was recorded in New York City over the summer with musician-producer Charley Drayton, who is known for working with Fiona Apple, Keith Richards, Paul Simon, The B52s and more.
"Charley liked what he saw in our on-the-fly SXSW band videos and asked if he could record with us, so it was off to Manhattan to get it done," Yasmineh said.
The album was then recorded in Soho at No Shame Labs in an impressive nine-day session. And the limited time in the studio combined with Drayton's skill, according to Yasimeh, "compelled everyone to work hard fast and smart."
"My last album (Wake Me Up When It's Over) took two years to finish, this one was all done in one month's time, including the nine days we spent recording in New York, during a classically hot week in August," she said. "We basically wrote the songs in studio with the band and the additional players, including Drayton, Dirk Fremuth and Craig Teiken."
Yasmineh says to expect a different, more intense album this time around.
"I wrote all the lyrics on the spot and what you hear in the record is the raw emotion of brand new sentiments, written within the same hour of the performance," Yasmineh said.
The album release party is set for the Icehouse this Friday at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Click here to buy.
