No Major Delays At MSP, But Nor'easter Could Change That

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While most people drive to their turkey day celebrations, the airports are still busy. This year, travelers are dealing with more than the normal holiday travel crowds.

There's been a steady flow of passengers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport since Wednesday morning. From what we've seen, the wait time to check in and go through security has been short -- no long lines. For the day before Thanksgiving, this is pretty good.

Compared to other airports around the country, MSP isn't experiencing any major delays. However, travelers could run into trouble if they're heading to parts of the east coast like New York, D.C., Boston and Philadelphia. Snowy conditions could delay or cancel flights.

There's a possibility that a nor'easter could bring 6 to 12 inches of snow to parts of the east coast by the end of the day. About 30 million people could be affected.

Just the possibility of that happening is why some people are leaving Minneapolis now and trying to get to their final destinations before conditions get worse.

"I tend to take this in stride. I'm originally from Minnesota and so I'm used to snow and I'm used to inclement weather. So, if our plane gets delayed, well, we'll do the best we can. Obviously, I'd like to be back in sunny California, but I'm used to (Minnesota)," traveler Greg Berg.

"I've been told there are delays, but so far only 20 minutes," another traveler, Steven Tallen, said. "Am I worried? Not too much. I think I'll make it at least to Chicago. I've got a daughter in Chicago, a daughter in Maine, so either way I'll be spending Thanksgiving with family."

Again, there are only a few delays at MSP Airport, but it's a good idea to check the status of your flight before you head to the airport. Airport officials strongly encourage getting to the airport two hours before your flight.
