Sentencing Set For Minnesota Kidnapper

STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) — Sentencing is set for Jan. 16 for a Minnesota man convicted of kidnapping a 14-year-old New York girl he met online.

It took a Washington County jury just two hours Wednesday to convict 54-year-old Michael Angelo Goerlich, of Landfall. The jury found him guilty of one count of kidnapping with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, one count of kidnapping with intent to deprive parental rights, and one count of false imprisonment.

According to the criminal complaint, Goerlich arranged to meet her in May on a corner near her home in Rochester, New York, and brought her back home with him to Minnesota. An Amber Alert was issued in New York after her parents discovered she was gone.

A deputy found her in a locked bedroom in Goerlich's mobile home.
