Superior Schools To Keep Kid's Book About Girl With 2 Moms

SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) — A school board in northwestern Wisconsin has decided not to ban a children's book about a girl who has gay parents.

The Superior School Board voted Monday night to continue allowing "Emma and Meesha My Boy: A Two Mom Story" in district classrooms and libraries. The book tells the story of a little girl who learns how to be nice to her cat with the help of her mothers.

WDIO-TV reports only one of the school board members voted in support of the ban because he didn't think it was appropriate for such young children.

The board's vice president says the book is designed for students in kindergarten to third grade. She says the board can't remove a book based on a complaint from one parent who finds it offensive.
