No One Injured After Fire At Steel Manufacturing Plant

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A spark from work being conducted to close to a combustible metal caused a fire to break out at a steel manufacturing plant in Minneapolis early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews responded to a call of a fire just before 1 a.m. at Alliance Steel on St. Anthony Parkway.

According to crews on the scene, a box filled with aluminum caught fire, possibly due to welding that was happening near the bin.

The fire was small but there was a lot of smoke. Due to the location of the bin it was difficult for firefighters to get to it.

Crews working to put out the fire wore masks because they weren't sure how toxic the smoke might be.

Firefighters said four people were inside the building at the time.

No one was hurt.

According to the Minneapolis Arson Unit, the fire was caused by an accidental spark from a cutting tool.
