Guest Pass: Eden Prairie's Historic Home Turned Coffee House
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If the aroma of freshly roasted coffee doesn't draw you in, the beauty of the Smith Douglas More House might do the trick.
"Sheldon Smith built the house in 1877. Then his daughter married Sheldon Douglas, who moved in here after him, and then Earl More bought it from them," Alex Schuster said.
Schuster's family now runs a Dunn Brothers Coffee inside the historic home.
"I think that Dunn Brothers likes to give a local flavor to each of their stores," Schuster said. "So by using these properties we get to have more personality in what we do."
There's plenty of personality in these walls, and beneath your feet. The hardwood floors are original, with 138 years of character.
The sofa and bed may have been swapped out for tables and chairs, but this house still feels like home.
"Most of us have grown up in farms, so we were raised in an old farm house setting like this," Mark Miller, who meets at the coffee shop twice a week, said. "So it's kind of enjoyable to come back to this atmosphere"
Behind the counter, you can get all your Dunn Brothers favorites. But recently the Schusters added a side menu with craft coffees you can only get here: the flat white, long black and fluffy.
Another reason to skip the to-go cup and have your coffee to stay.
"When you want to have something comfortable, you come here," regular Darlyn Keifer said. "If you want to have just coffee, go someplace else."
The Dunn Bros. at SDMH also serves food, wine and beer.
