Jury Finds Man Guilty Of Attempted Murder In Drive-By Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A jury found a 35-year-old St. Paul man guilty of attempted murder Thursday for a drive-by shooting last August in which he allegedly targeted a man who'd been involved with his girlfriend.
The Dakota County Attorney's Office said that the jury deliberated for about four hours before finding Jorge Roman Vasquez guilty of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, assault, and being a felon in possession of a gun. He's slated to be sentenced on April 16 in Hastings.
The charges stemmed from the afternoon of Aug. 18, 2014, when police say Vasquez drove by an apartment complex in West St. Paul and fired several shots at a group of men hanging out in the garage.
One man suffered wounds to his right arm and right leg. He told officers that the shooter was Vasquez.
During an investigation, witnesses told police that Vasquez, who'd recently been released from prison, shot the man because he'd previously been involved with Vasquez's girlfriend.
Police found Vasquez at a St. Paul apartment and arrested him without incident.
