Minnesota-Duluth Beats Minnesota 4-1 In NCAA Play
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Willie Raskob had a goal and an assist in a three-goal flurry in the first period and Minnesota-Duluth beat Minnesota 4-1 on Friday night in the first round of the Northeast Regional of the NCAA hockey tournament.
The second-seeded Bulldogs (21-15-3) will face top-seeded Boston University in the regional championship Saturday for a berth in the Frozen Four. Boston University beat Yale 3-2 in overtime.
Freshman Kasimir Kaskisuo made 31 saves in his NCAA debut.
Seth Ambroz had the lone goal for the third-seeded Gophers (23-13-3), scoring 15:06 into the third period and breaking up Kaskisuo's bid for a shutout.
Kaskisuo had a big cushion to work with after the Bulldogs scored three times in a 6:01 span in the first period.
Raskob assisted on Tony Cameranesi's goal 12:49 into the game. Justin Crandall made it 2-0 with his 13th goal of the season at 15:27, and Raskob scored with 1:12 left in the period.
Carson Soucy added a power-play goal 11:02 into the second.
Adam Wilcox had 29 saves for Minnesota, which had 15 shots through the first two periods before testing Kaskisuo with 17 shots in the third.
The Gophers still hold a 134-77-17 advantage in the state rivalry, but the Bulldogs have won the only two meetings in the NCAA Tournament.
Duluth also beat Minnesota 3-1 in 2004 regional championship.
