Local Tap Talk: Lakes & Legends Brewery Coming To Loring Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Already seeking a new brew to excite your taste buds? Good news, you won't have to wait too long!

A new craft brewery, Lakes & Legends, announced it plans to open its doors in summer of 2015.

Lakes & Legends Brewing Company is co-founded by Ethan Applen and Derrick Taylor, who both have Minnesota ties. Taylor is a native, while Applen has family in Marhsall.

Applen, who most recently worked at Warner Bros., will act as CEO. Taylor, who joins Lakes & Legends after managing marketing and events for Red Bull, will be head of sales and marketing.

Joining them as head brewer is Andrew Dimery. Dimery most recently was head brewer at Bluegrass Brewing Company in Louisville. Prior to Bluegrass Brewing, he worked at Sun King Brewery in Indianapolis.

As for their beer?

Applen said they want to introduce new styles and flavors to Minneapolis.

They plan to focus on Belgian and Farmhouse style beers, offering a mix of flagship, year-round brews and seasonals. All of which will be available in the taproom, Growlers and 750 mL bottles.

"Minnesota's craft beer scene is exploding, and we're excited to be a part of that.  Our focus is on Belgian and Farmhouse beers, beers that we love to brew and drink ourselves, and we're excited to complement the other styles being brewed in the region," Applen said.

Lakes & Legends said it plans to begin construction this month. They will be located in Minneapolis' Loring Park neighborhood.
