Wild Fans Excited After Series Win Over Blues

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo encouraged fans to have a few Bloody Mary's and get excited about Game 6 Sunday, knowing a win would send them to the Western Conference Semifinals against Chicago.

The fans had reason to be fired up as the Wild got a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues to win the series 4-2. The Chicago Blackhawks await, but fans took to the streets and bars near Xcel Energy Center to celebrate Sunday's series win.

"They did fantastic , 4-1, they did it last game. You know we had that one game that we were bad, we bounced right back we are keeping it going for the Cup. We are going for Chicago, we are getting the Cup," Wild fan Kevin Witt said.

He was fired up inside Tom Reid's after Sunday's win. The fans cheered "We want the Cup!" It's still early on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the momentum is building.

Thousands of fans with high hopes, even this early in the playoffs, filled Xcel Energy Center and couldn't help but be a thrilled after the win. Fans know it won't be easy to beat the Blackhawks, though.

"Oh it's kinda tough last time we played here we kind of went backwards," Wild fan Melissa Johnson said.

"We actually switched jerseys. They won the last time she wore it so we are going to keep it going," David Johnson said.

Super fan Brandon Thompson thinks he's a good luck charm, or at least that's how he sells it when he uses his trusty sign to ask for a free ticket. He's gotten into 35 regular season games.

"I got into 1, 2 and 3," Thompson said.

Not as lucky this time, but for the fans who made it inside, even those decked out in Wild gear couldn't help themselves.

"My husband won't be crazy about me shopping today again. Sorry honey!" Janine Ahrens said.

Father and son duo Bradley and Rhys Nuss rarely miss a home game.

"We got season tickets and Rhys really loves the Wild," Bradley Nuss said.

But that's not the case for everyone in the family.

"My sister hates the Wild and last time she was complaining about the Wild while we were in the car," Rhys Nuss said.

When the game got going, hopeful Fans cheered as loud as they could with the next shot at glory in mind.
