Police: U Of M Student Robbed At Knifepoint
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis Police are looking for a suspect after a female student was robbed at knifepoint late Monday night.
Police said the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Walnut Street SE and Washington Avenue SE. Authorities said the victim is a University of Minnesota student.
Police said the victim had withdrawn money from a cash machine on Washington Avenue and was walking westbound when the suspect approached her from behind. The suspect engaged the woman by asking her for directions, produced a knife and threatened to hurt her if she screamed.
The suspect was last seen on video surveillance getting on an eastbound Green Line LRT train at the East Bank Station. The victim said she was not hurt, but believes the suspect followed her to the cash machine.
The victim gave the suspect the money she had just withdrawn and the suspect fled the area westbound on Washington Avenue. Police said the suspect is described as a black man with a dark complexion about 20 to 25 years old with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 6 feet to 6 feet, 3 inches tall with a thin build and was wearing a dark green T-shirt and shorts. The victim described the knife as a kitchen knife, about eight inches long.
