Sheriff: 2 Dead In Carver County Motorcycle Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two people were killed Wednesday night after a motorcycle lost control, left the roadway and hit a field approach in Dahlgren Township, according to the Carver County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities were called at about 10:05 p.m. to a report of a motorcycle crash on County Road 11, north of County Road 140. The area is located just west of Chaska. When officers arrived, they found a man and woman who had suffered severe injuries.

Witnesses at the scene told law enforcement officers that the motorcycle was heading south on County Road 11 when the driver lost control, went off the roadway and struck a field approach. The driver and a passenger were both thrown from the motorcycle and killed.

The passenger, identified by authorities as 41-year-old Heidi Gongoll of Norwood Young America, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Patrick Gongoll of Norwood Young America, was transported to 212 Medical Center where he later died from injuries in the crash. Authorities said neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

What led up to the crash remains under investigation. The Carver County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Chaska Police Department, Chaska Fire Department, Carver Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Ridgeview Ambulance and the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.
