CHS Field Starts Installation Of 300 Solar Panels

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -  They're soaking up the sun at the new baseball stadium in St. Paul, and they're turning that sun into electricity.

Workers started installing 300 solar panels at CHS Field Wednesday.

The project is expected to supply at least 12 percent of the ballpark's energy needs.

And the team expects to save more than $22,000 on their energy bill.

The Saints say it's part of their commitment to be one of the greenest ballparks in America.

"Everybody knows the basics -- the recycling side of things," said Sean Aronson with the Saints. "But this is next level for us and for sports venues, and we're really well ahead of the curve in getting this done."

Xcel Energy provided the grant that made installation of the panels possible.

It's going to be about two more weeks before the panels are up and running.
