Kahn, Carlson Crack Record For Longest House Tenure

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Two Minnesota lawmakers are now the longest-serving members of the House of Representatives.

Reps. Phyllis Kahn and Lyndon Carlson were sworn into office in January 1973. On Monday, they broke a record for longest service in the House set by Rep. Willard Munger from Duluth. Munger served in the House for 15,532 days.

Kahn is a Minneapolis Democrat. Carlson is a fellow Democrat from Crystal. They're serving their 22nd terms in the Legislature.

Three Minnesota lawmakers still have Kahn and Carlson beat for the most days clocked at the Legislature overall, thanks to terms in the House and Senate. The pair of Democrats could break those records if they serve into 2017.

Both Democrats say they plan to run for re-election in 2016.
