1 Dog Dead After Alexandria Fire Consumes Home

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Saturday fire that started in a garage left an Alexandria home destroyed and a dog dead.

According to a report from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the fire began in the garage of a home on East Lake Mary Road while someone was transferring gasoline from one can to another.

After a 911 call, authorities arrived on scene to find the garage fully engulfed in flames, and residents told officers that a dog was trapped inside.

Alexandria firemen were ultimately able to extinguish the flames, but officials say the house and garage were a total loss. Deputies also discovered the dog dead among the ruins.

Medical workers also treated a young boy at the scene for minor burns, but no other injuries were reported.
