Big Road Closures Affecting Weekend Driving

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - With road construction season in full swing, there are a few big closures that will affect your drive time this weekend.

In the north metro, Interstate 35E southbound, between the Forest Lake Split and County Road E in White Bear Lake, is closed until Sunday afternoon. The detour takes you to 694. The work is part of a bridge improvement project underway through November 2016.

In St. Louis Park, Highway 100 between I-394 and Hwy 62 is closing at 10 p.m. Friday, and will remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday. The posted detour takes you to Highway 169.

MnDOT is preparing for bigger changes. Starting Monday the ramp from Southbound Highway 100 to Westbound Highway 7 will close until the fall of 2016.

Another ramp closure will affect a lot of people in the south metro. Crews will close the ramp from I-35W northbound to Highway 62 eastbound will starting at 10 p.m. Friday, until 6 a.m. Monday. Detours are posted.

The Snelling Avenue bridge across I-94 will be reopened by midnight Friday. That's a week earlier than expected. Crews closed the bridge in May for repaving and improvements.

Commuters in the west metro will get some relief Monday when the eastbound lanes are reopened on 394 between Golden Valley and Minneapolis. They've been closed the last two weeks. MnDOT is also reopening the HOV/Reversible lanes between Highway 100 and I-94.
They're set to open by Monday morning.
