In Minnesota, US Commerce Secretary Promotes Trade Pacts
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A prominent member of President Barack Obama's cabinet is extolling recent global trade pacts as vital to the growth of the U.S. economy.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker delivered that message and others to Minnesota business leaders during a speech Friday. She highlighted two recent trade agreements ratified by Congress after intense debate. She described them as "good for you, good for your workers, and good for our country's economy."
Pritzker says the "tough, modern trade deals" are critical to connecting domestic companies with worldwide consumers.
She also touched on administration initiatives to develop the domestic workforce and encourage entrepreneurship. Even though the economy has rebounded, she said worker wages are still rising too slowly and there is too much uncertainty.
It was the secretary's first trip to the state.
