School For Those With Special Needs Unveils New Therapeutic Playground

RICHFIELD, Minn. (WCCO) -- Kids of all abilities have a new special place to play.

The Fraser School in Richfield unveiled it's new outside area Saturday. It features outdoor music therapy under the pavilion, and a natural mound with a built-in slide.

Gardening, sensory therapy, and education courses will all be held on the playground. The Fraser school serves children and adults with special needs.

Dee Dee Stevens-Neal is with the Fraser School.

"We feel children really learn best by being with their same-age peers, regardless of abilities and needs," Stevens-Neal said. "It's really important to us to be able to have that in both our classrooms and our outdoor space."

The playground was named after Jessica Ferris. She's a former student at Fraser and has worked at the school for more than 20 years. The naming of the park was a surprise to Jessica.
