Goodbye Rain, Hello Snow
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The rain has moved on, and now snow is falling on Minnesota.
As the rainclouds moved out of the state Wednesday night, temperatures fell below freezing and flurries began to fall Thursday morning in the northern parts of the state.
By mid-day, the flakes were falling from the Iron Range to the Twin Cities metro.
"It's really not amounting to much," WCCO meteorologist Matt Brickman said. "I think an inch and a half is the biggest snow total I've seen so far."
The bigger story could be the wind.
A wind advisory is in effect for much of the southern part of the state, where gusts could be as strong as 50 mph.
Combined with snow, the winds could make for blizzard-like conditions in some areas.
Meanwhile, the snowstorm that's sweeping across the Great Plains will miss most of Minnesota, although communities along the Iowa border could see some accumulation.
The weekend looks to be cold and sunny, and there's a slight warm-up on the way early next week.
