Metro Mobility Says Glitch That Delayed Riders Fixed

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Metro Mobility says it's fixed a technical problem that caused delays for riders.

The computer system for the public transportation service was down most of Monday, and part of Sunday. Metro Mobility caters to people with disabilities or health conditions. The glitch prevented some drivers from getting their routes, causing some riders to wait hours.

"It's my everything. It's my independence," rider Mark Hughes said.

Mark Hughes has taken Metro Mobility routinely for nearly 20 years.

"Doctor's appointments, everything, grocery shopping," Hughes said.

The transportation service provides roughly 8,000 rides daily to customers around the Twin Cities during the week. The Metropolitan Council, which oversees the service, said a computer glitch with the scheduling system which started Sunday prevented some drivers from getting their routes and forced delays for riders. Hughes says he waited an hour Sunday, and called while he waited again Monday.

"I don't know if I'm going from point A to point B. I know my back up plan. But I want Metro Mobility, who is supposed to be an efficient service and is not, to be able to perform for me," Hughes said.

Over the years, he says there have been hiccups with service. But this latest problem has him taking a stand.

"We have some vulnerable adults out here that can't speak up for themselves, that have been left behind and forgotten. I want some accountability in management," Hughes said.

Hughes was picked up 30 minutes behind schedule. He thinks there needs to a better solution.

"If your computer is going to have a glitch, and all computers go out, what's your plan B then? What's your back up system?" Hughes said.

Metro Mobility reported the scheduling system was fixed by the end of the day. And they said no one would be left stranded. A representative said customers should be able to make reservations as usual beginning Tuesday morning.
