Mpls. Man Sentenced In Pedal Pub Crash That Seriously Injured 4

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis man learned Wednesday he will serve three years of probation for causing a crash that injured several Pedal Pub riders, according to Hennepin County officials.

In June, Mershon Leroy Corbett, 35, crashed his Chevrolet Monte Carlo into the back of a Pedal Pub on the Hennepin Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis, causing the pub to tip over onto several of riders. Witnesses say Corbett did not apply brakes before the collision.

Twelve people were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, four of whom were seriously injured.

Officers at the scene say Corbett smelled of alcohol, his eyes were bloodshot and his speech was heavy and slurred.

A breath test at taken at the scene showed Corbett's blood-alcohol level was .21 — almost three times the legal limit.

In addition to probation, Corbett will also serve 150 days in the Hennepin County workhouse. He faces 13 months in prison if he doesn't follow the terms of his probation.

Corbett was convicted of criminal vehicular operation causing substantial bodily harm under the influence of alcohol, which is a felony.
