Kylie's Kids: Meet Jaelynn

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There are plenty of high school students who will skip class every once in a while, but this week's Kylie's Kid is happy to be back in school for just half days.

Jaelynn spent her freshman year fighting cancer, but that changed at the tail end of 2015.

For many, the end of December is about Christmas, but Jaelynn and her family celebrate what they call "Miracle Day." It was on Dec. 23 that she was declared cancer free.

She had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

"I was really scared," she said. "I had swollen lymph nodes all over the back of my head. They were the size of golf balls."

It took two rounds of chemo to beat the cancer, but not very long for Jaelynn to start helping those still fighting.

"We talked to the hospital and they needed more Play-Doh, so we did a Play-Doh drive at the middle school," she said.

Eventually, the drive collected about 1,100 cups for kids to play with while they were getting their blood drawn.

Jaelynn's support team aren't easy to miss, since they wear their love on their sleeves -- literally. They come decked out in "Team JJ" shirts.

"A lot of people from around my house bought them. People wear them at school," she said.
