Wright Co. K-9 Dies One Week Before Retirement

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Wright County K-9 officer died Thursday night after suddenly collapsing while on duty.

The sheriff's office announced on Facebook that Saber, a nine-year veteran of the department, died at a veterinary hospital after suffering a ruptured tumor.

Saber was a decorated officer, winning first place in criminal apprehension at 2011's Region 12 certification, and fifth place one year at National Narcotics Certification.

He was set to retire on Jan. 29.
