Officials ID Body Found In Shot-Up Car

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials have identified the body found Tuesday in a car covered with bullet holes in north Minneapolis.

Twenty-three-year-old Darnell Lavary Wilkes, of Minneapolis, died in the car on the 1000 block of Sheridan Avenue North, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said.

The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the torso. The manner of death was homicide.

Police said they found Wilkes slumped over in the car, which was missing both its license plates.

It's unknown when or where Wilkes was shot, or how long the car had been parked on Sheridan Avenue.

Minneapolis police are investigating.

The family has since set up a GoFundMe page to assist with burial and funeral expenses.
