Ryan Dungey Defends Title In Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Defending series champion Ryan Dungey won the Monster Energy AMA Supercross race Saturday night at Overstock.Com Coliseum, leading all 20 laps for his third straight 450SX class victory and 25th overall.

"To be able to get out front and find your lines early in the race is key," said Dungey, Belle Plaine, Minnesota. "It's great to see all of the hard work pay off."

The Red Bull KTM factory rider increased his lead in the season standings to 22 points over Husqvarna's Jason Anderson and Yamaha's Chad Reed. Dungey has won or finished second in 15 straight races.

Suzuki's Ken Roczen was second, followed by KTM's Marvin Musquin, Anderson and Reed.

"We are making steps in the right direction every weekend," Roczen said. "There were some parts of the track tonight where I was doing well and others where I struggled."

Musquin had his first podium finish in his rookie season in 450SX.

"I am really happy for Marvin, who is my teammate, for earning the first podium of his career," Dungey said. "I train with him during the week, and tonight he proved he has the speed."

Joey Savatgy won the Western Regional 250SK Class race for his first career victory and the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team's first since 2014.

"To be on the podium and have the points lead ... is awesome," said Savatgy, from Thomasville, Georgia.

Savatgy took the lead with three laps left when Yamaha's Cooper Webb was forced to pull off the track because if a mechanical problem. Webb ended up 21st in the 22-rider field after winning the first three events of the season, seven in row overall and nine of the last 10.

Savatgy also took the lead in the season standings, two points ahead of Webb.

Yamaha's Colt Nichols was second, followed by Honda's Christian Craig and KTM's Mitchell Oldenburg.
