MNfusion: Red Cow Offers Alternative To Fish Fry Fridays For Lent

On Wednesday, the season of Lent began for Christians around the world. For many of Catholic denomination, this also marked the beginning of the end of meat on Fridays.

Being in the Midwest, Fish Fry Fridays are prolific. But for those that are looking to expand beyond the batter, Twin Cities' Red Cow has a number of offerings.

Fish Free

Fridays during Lent can be a challenge if you don't like fish.

So, Red Cow has a few fish-free offerings.

The "Veggie Love Burger" is a chick pea patty topped with avocado salsa and sliced red cabbage. Or, try the classic grilled cheese. The sandwich includes a combination of cheddar, gruyere and smoked gouda. It's served on sourdough bread with tomato soup and barbecue chips.

There's also the traditional Mac-n-Cheese. The critically-acclaimed dish is served year round and features elbow macaroni with cheese sauce, topped with toasted bread crumbs.

From The Ocean

Move beyond beer-battered cod with Red Cow's Ahi tuna burger. The burger features a spicy tuna patty, fresh avocado and dragon sauce.

If you enjoy seafood but aren't a fan of fish, Red Cow offers a take on the fish tacos by offering shrimp tacos. The dish comes with three red curry tempura battered shrimp tacos, topped with Napa cabbage, cilantro lime aioli, pickled red onion, pineapple salsa and avocado cream.

Classic

Of course the Lenten menu wouldn't be complete without at least the offering of the classic fish-n-chips dish.

Red Cow's take on the fried fish includes beer battered white fish served with hand-cut fries and Red Cow sauce. The dish comes as a single serving or all-you-can-eat.

Red Cow has three locations in the Twin Cities – North Loop, 50th Street and Cathedral Hill. The menu is available at all three. For more information on hours or reservations for each location, visit Red Cow online.
