Teen Found Guilty Of Bus Stop Killing, Sentenced To Life In Prison

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 19-year-old will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a court hearing in Minneapolis Wednesday.

Prosecutors say the jury took less than three hours to convict Montrell Webster of first-degree murder in the death of a 36-year-old man at a bus stop in September 2014. A judge immediately sentenced Webster to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

In the original criminal complaint, prosecutors said the victim, Eulalio Gonzalez-Sanchez, got off a bus at around 6:15 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2014 on his way home and was shot less than 10 minutes later near the intersection of 7th Street and 22nd Avenue Northeast.

In December of that year, prosecutors say another man, Jeremiah Blackwell, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. Police obtained security video footage that showed Blackwell and Webster buying ammunition for the murder weapon. Webster later admitted to police he was with Blackwell during the robbery and fired the fatal shots.

The Hennepin County Attorney's office say Blackwell pleaded guilty to aiding an officer.
