Union: St. Paul Teachers Vote To Ratify 2-Year Contract

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Members of the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers voted to ratify a tentative two-year agreement with St. Paul Schools.

On Friday, union president, Denise Rodriguez, announced the ratification. The agreement was reached on Feb. 26 following a negotiation session that lasted 24 hours.

"This is an important step to move our work forward on racial equity, school climate and meeting the needs of our diverse student population. Now we need to maintain that focus and get to work with the Board of Education and administration to address other key policy and priority areas," Rodriguez said.

The teachers' contract needs the approval from the Board of Education before its finalized.

"District leaders have much work to do to rebuild trust among educators, parents and the broader community. Their success in those efforts, which must include setting priorities to achieve the success of what we have agreed to, is of great importance to all of us," Rodriguez said.

The board meeting is expected to take place on March 22.
