MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota's first nationally-renowned company is unveiling a new research and development laboratory.

3M showed-off a new $150 million dollar facility at its headquarters in St. Paul. The new lab will enhance collaboration and technology sharing throughout 3M.

The company says it will give scientists and researchers an opportunity to share ideas under one roof.

"With this new 10-acre facility and state of the art lab with 700 scientists, 3M will continue its work to add to more than its 106,000 patents," Sen. Amy Klobuchar said.

Right now, engineers are developing material to help enable longer life spans. The company is also working to create higher energy in batteries.
