Minneapolis Reaches Record-High Temperature On #Top10WxDay

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A record-breaking #Top10WxDay brought the metro area a high of 70 degrees on Saturday.

The previous record was set in 1990 when the temperature reached a high of 69 degrees.

A mild breeze and sunshine brought people outside to enjoy their favorite warm weather activities and brought an early boost for some businesses.

Marcy Levine of Freewheel Bike's West Bank location in Minneapolis said bike season is off to an early start by a couple of weeks this year.

"As soon as the weather goes from winter to the beginnings of spring, folks who are fair-weather riders get their bicycles out of the garage, out of the basement and bring them in," Levine said.

Lynn Pratt brought her 4-year-old daughter Annalisa's bike into the store to get a new back wheel.

"I've been waiting for bike riding," Annalisa said, eagerly.

"Actually, we were expecting to be cross country skiing," Lynn Pratt said.

Levine said wait times for some bike tune-ups were at about one week on Saturday and would likely get a bit longer in the next couple of weeks.

At Mobile Entertainment in St. Anthony Main, the owner said he is getting an extra month of business thanks to the early snowmelt.

Owner Bill Neuenschwander figured warm weather could add a 10 percent boost in business for spring and summer Segway tours.

The only trouble is some of his employees aren't quite ready for work.

"Some of them are in high school, some of them are in college," Neuenschwander said, "some of them are in Fort Myers because they're retired and they're not back yet."

Whether their feet were off the ground or firmly planted in a long line for ice cream, Minnesotans couldn't shake one sneaky, snowy, suspicion on this #Top10WxDay.

"You know, I'm not sure it's quite over," Pratt said.

In 2015, snow fell on April 21st.
