Exchange: Most MNsure Customers Have Received Tax Forms

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Most MNsure customers have received a critical form just ahead of the tax return filing deadline.

The state's health insurance exchange has struggled to send out the forms residents need to prove health coverage and avoid a tax penalty. Few had received the documents by MNsure's own Feb. 1 deadline to distribute them.

MNsure officials said Wednesday that 93 percent of enrollees have their forms. The remainder should be delivered by the end of the week. Tax returns are due by April 18.

MNsure chief executive Allison O'Toole calls the delays "unacceptable."

But a Republican lawmaker says the exchange needs to do more. Rep. Greg Davids has a bill that would require MNsure to compensate consumers who faced delays or tax penalties from late returns.
