2 Sheds Damaged In Alexandria Fire, No Injuries

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say there were no injuries but a shed in Alexandria was destroyed and another was heavily damaged in a fire Monday afternoon.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded just before 3 p.m. to a structure fire at 6109 50th Ave. SE. When firefighters arrived, an exterior shed 12 feet by 15 feet in size that contained  wood-burning stove was completely engulfed.

Authorities say the shed collapsed onto a nearby 400 gallon propane tank. The fire also expanded to a nearby 24-foot by 32-foot shed that had living quarters. As firefighters got to the scene, the propane tank pressure release valve blew, releasing propane that had ignited. Firefighters were able to close the tank valves and secure the propane tank before it could explode.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out of both sheds. The smaller shed is a total loss, and the larger shed suffered extensive fire and smoke damage.

Authorities say the cause of the fire appears to be related to the wood-burning stove. There were no injuries to the residents or firefighters. The homeowners also declined assistance from the Red Cross.
