Record Turnout Expected For Wisconsin Primary

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Voters in Wisconsin are deciding Tuesday who should be the Republican and Democratic presidential nominees.

The latest CBS News poll shows Sen. Ted Cruz ahead of Donald Trump by 6 points in the Badger State. If Cruz wins, it would increase the chances of a contested GOP convention in July.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton on Monday all but conceded Wisconsin to Bernie Sanders, who is currently polling ahead of the front-runner by two points. If Sanders wins, it will be his fourth victory in a row.

While Clinton stills holds a significant lead over Sanders in delegates, she lags far behind him in fundraising.

Voter turnout in Wisconsin has been heavy and steady since polls opened at 7 a.m. Voters lined up as early as 6:15 a.m. in order to cast their ballots.

Candidates on both sides have spent the last 10 days criss-crossing the state, appearing at town hall meetings, rallies and giving speeches.

About 1.7 million voters are expected to cast ballots in Wisconsin. That would be about 40 percent of eligible voters.

If predictions stay on track, it would be the highest turnout in more than 30 years.
