Black Students In Wis. Struggle To Graduate In 4 Years, Data Shows

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — New state statistics show less than two-thirds of black students in the class of 2015 graduated from Wisconsin high schools within four years.

The Department of Public Instruction released data Thursday showing 64 percent of black students in the class of 2015 graduated within four years. That's down from 65 percent in 2014. By contrast, 92.9 percent of white students in the class of 2015 graduated in four years, unchanged from 2014.

The data also shows 77.5 percent of Hispanics, 78.1 percent of American Indians and 85.5 percent of biracial students in the class of 2015 graduated in four years.

The state's overall four-year graduation rate in 2015 was 88.4 percent, down slightly from 88.6 percent from the previous year.

A DPI spokesman didn't immediately respond to an email message.
