Wounded Knee Woman Accused Of Theft From Tribal Group Sentenced

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A Wounded Knee woman has been sentenced to three years of probation and restitution for stealing from a tribal organization.

U.S. Attorney Randolph Seiler says 27-year-old Casey Titus embezzled more than $15,000 from the Wounded Knee Community Council while serving as vice chairwoman and treasurer from 2010 through May 2014.

She pleaded guilty last November to a theft charge and was recently sentenced. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Viken ordered her to pay back the money she stole.
