Due To Conflict, St. Paul Officer-Involved Shooting Case Sent To Washington Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The recent case of an officer-involved shooting in St. Paul has been sent to the Washington County Attorney's Office due to a conflict of interest.

According to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office, the decision was made after learning one of the four officers involved in the shooting is the son of an employee at its attorney's office.

So, the attorney's office requested on May 10 that the Washington County Attorney's Office handle the entire review of the officer-involved shooting of Jaffort Demont Smith.

Now, the Washington County Attorney's Office is working with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) on the review of this officer-involved shooting incident.

The Ramsey County Attorney's Office has had no involvement in the case since making the referral.
